The Central Valley of Costa Rica is home to San Jose, the capital city, as well as a number of other small towns (Alajuela, San Ramon, Cartago, & Heredia). Almost three quarters of the country?s population lives in San Jose, and most of the government and corporate centres are there.

The Central Valley is probably the most overlooked region of the country. There are many beautiful places to visit during your stay including the Poas and Barva Volcanoes, the La Paz Waterfall Gardens, the Cafe Britt Coffee Plantation, and plenty of white water rafting. The city of San Jose offers everything including excellent restaurants, shopping malls, parks, museums, and the National Theater. You can easily spend a couple of days or an afternoon sightseeing or dancing the night away.

The Central Valley is surrounded by lush mountain ridges with a year-round spring time feel of 70 degrees Fahrenheit (20+ Celsius). The rainy season brings rainy afternoons to the region and at some points it can rain pretty much all day.
